The lovely folks over at Bath & Unwind recently offered me the opportunity to try out a can of dry shampoo from their range; with my oily scalp, dry shampoo is an absolute staple for me in order to avoid washing my hair on a daily basis, and I'm always keen to try new products in the hunt for the perfect one. Lo, I was kindly gifted Moroccanoil's Dry Shampoo for Dark Tones*. But will it be entering my dry shampoo hall of fame?!
Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo
One of my number one pet hates with dry shampoo is that awful dull, chalky residue that some can leave in your roots - no-one needs quite such an obvious indicator that they've skipped the hairwashing for the day... So the idea of a dry shampoo designed with darker hair tones in mind appealed to me instantly. Moroccanoil say, "Ultra-fine rice starches absorb oil, build-up and odour, leaving hair refreshed and volumised. UV-protecting, argan oil-infused formula breaks down instantly, leaving no dull residue."— Sounds promising, no?
Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo for Dark Tones
I really like the bright turquoise can, it looks lovely and summery. The scent is quite a typical haircare fragrance - nothing I could particularly identify, but it smells fresh and clean, which is what I'm looking for really in my dry shampoos! I can see the product after spritzing into my roots, but the instructions say to let it dry and then massage into your scalp as you would with a regular shampoo - and once that's done, I have to admit there isn't any kind of dull or chalky residue! My hair is left looking fresh and clean for an extra day; it doesn't feel quite as clean as if I'd actually washed it, but nor does it feel as horrible as if I hadn't done anything with it. I'm really quite impressed!

In all, this has worked really well for me, in terms of freshening up my hair to get another day's wear from a wash, without leaving any tell-tale powdery residue in my roots; it definitely works well with my mid-brown hair, although I'd be interested to see how well it fares with very dark or black hair! If your hair is on the fairer side, you could check out the Light Tones version instead, although obviously I haven't tried that!
Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo for Dark Tones is priced at £14.85 for 205ml, available here; whilst it's on the expensive side for a dry shampoo, it's definitely one of the most effective I've tried in terms of actually freshening up my hair, and without leaving a horrible residue. Do you have a favourite dry shampoo? Have you ever used a tinted one?
