Oval make-up brushes have been making waves in the beauty world lately, starting (I think!) with the pricey Artis brushes, with versions quickly popping up from everyone from MAC to Makeup Revolution. So when I saw that Born Pretty Store had their own version, I was eager to give it a go and see what all the fuss was about!
The Oval Brush* was described as being suitable for both cream and powder products; I went for the silver option, but the brush was also available in Rose Gold and one other colour which I can't remember. My first impressions were that it feels quite cheap - and to be fair, it is, so I can't really complain! I did feel that the handle felt quite flimsy, although the fibres feel nice and soft and are well-cut.
I tried this first for liquid foundation, and I've tried a couple of brands, applying product onto the back of my hand, directly onto the brush, or dabbing on my face and then blending. With all three techniques, I found that the brush seemed to move product around rather than blending it in, leaving it looking streaky and patchy. Not to be put off, I've also tried the brush for powder-based products such as blusher and loose powder; sadly, the fibres seem to be too densely-packed to pick product up properly, or distribute it evenly on the skin. Again, it ends up looking patchy and uneven - I've tried everything I can think of but just haven't been able to get it to work for me.
Sadly (or not?), the Born Pretty Oval Brush doesn't seem to be available on their site anymore, but I seem to recall it was around £3; it's probably worth keeping an eye on the site if you're interested, as the stock seems to be updated pretty frequently. Have you tried any oval make-up brushes? Is there a brand you'd recommend?
