Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes Recipe
It was my step-son's birthday last week and although I didn't see him on his actual birthday, I decided we should have cake anyway (any excuse for cake!) the next time I did see him. After some deliberation, I decided chocolate fudge cupcakes with Nutella icing were the way to go, and they turned out pretty well! This recipe made 13 large cupcakes with Nutella buttercream, or you could make one large cake.
Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes Recipe
Start by sifting together 175g self-raising flour, 4 tbsp cocoa powder, and 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda. Add 150g caster sugar and mix until combined.
Add 150ml milk, 150ml olive oil, 2 lightly beaten eggs and 2 tbsp golden syrup, and beat until smooth. Pour into cupcake cases or two greased and lined 7" sandwich cake tins. Bake in a preheated oven at 180° for 18 - 25 minutes (sandwich cakes will require slightly longer!) or until the cakes bounce back when lightly pressed. Remove from the oven and cool.
Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes Recipe
(Sorry there's no photos for this bit - it really is as easy as it sounds!) For the buttercream, beat 75g unsalted butter until soft, then sift and beat in 175g icing sugar, 4 tbsp cocoa powder, and 3 tbsp Nutella. You may also need to add a splash of milk to bring the ingredients together. Beat well until light and fluffy, then use to top the cupcakes.

Ta-dah!
These actually didn't turn out as chocolatey as I'd hoped, so I've increased the cocoa powder here, but let me know how you get on if you give these a go!

NOTD: Cinderella's Blueberry

Sinful Colors' 'Cinderella' is without a doubt one of my favourite nail polish purchases of the year, but I must admit it can be a bit of a chore building up the four or five coats it needs to be opaque, so I decided to give it a go layered over another polish. I went for Barry M's 'Blueberry', another shade I love; two coats of 'Blueberry' topped with 'Cinderella' gave a gorgeous purple-blue colour with Cinderella's beautiful shimmer, making my nails truly stunning when they catch the light (I'm aware the top-right photo isn't great but it does show the purple shade the polish takes in some lights!). I previously posted about Cinderella on her own if you'd like to see what it looks like.
NOTD Sinful Colors Cinderella Barry M Blueberry

Sinful Colors and Barry M are two of my favourite budget nail polish brands, both producing an amazing shade range, with pretty good quality, for great prices; and I think this combination is just lovely!
Do you like Cinderella over Blueberry? Do you like Sinful Colors and Barry M? What's your favourite budget nail polish brand?

Review: Laidbare Spot The Difference

You may remember (many months ago now) I reviewed Laidbare's For Richer, For Porer face mask and promised that a review of their Spot The Difference spot treatment cream would be forthcoming? No? I don't blame you, I'd forgotten too! Nevertheless, I'm here with my review at long last, so enjoy.
Laidbare Spot The Difference Review
I really like the packaging of Laidbare's products, using mainly white with pops of colour; the lime-green is lovely and zingy and I find it really appealing. The tube was contained in a cardboard box with plenty of product information: "Spot the difference in your skin, banish blemishes and prevent breakouts! Our treatment cream blends caffeine, a valuable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, Horse Chestnut Oil to care for and soothe sensitive skin, while Fennel calms irritation and Chrysanthemum reduces lumps and bumps."
Laidbare Spot The Difference Review
The instructions recommend applying to cleansed skin, either on problem areas or just all over to help ward off breakouts; I generally apply this thinly all over my face as blemishes aren't picky about where they take up residence on me! A blob about the size of a five pence coin is enough for my whole face, so this 30ml tube is lasting ages! The cream has a lovely, almost fruity scent which makes it really pleasant to apply, but hasn't irritated my skin at all. I'll be honest, I didn't really notice much difference from using this product, and kind of stopped using it. It didn't seem to make spots disappear any more quickly, which was the main thing I was looking for. After a few weeks, though, I noticed an increase in the number of spots I was getting, which reduced again once I restarted using Spot The Difference. I think it's the kind of product that works gradually over a few weeks so that you don't really notice it, but you definitely miss it when it's gone!
Overall, I think this is a lovely product for helping to reduce the number of blemishes you get, although I haven't found it does much to reduce existing spots; it also claims to reduce shine, although I haven't really noticed a difference, but then my skin is extremely oily and it would take a LOT for me to notice a difference, so if your skin is only slightly on the oily side this may help you there too.
Spot The Difference is available from the Laidbare website priced at £6.99 for 30ml, which will last you months even used daily, so I think it's a pretty good price, although I was lucky enough to find mine in TKMaxx for £3.99 in the January sales. Laidbare products are also stocked in some Holland & Barrett stores, so it's worth having a look there if you're interested.
Have you tried any Laidbare products? What do you use to treat blemishes?

June Empties

That's it, we are now officially halfway through 2013! June has been a bit of an odd month, with my internet being off for nearly two weeks at the start of the month, and trying to get to grips with having pretty much finished Uni. I've been keeping myself nicely busy with working on my dissertation and applying for jobs left, right and centre, and have also managed to use up a nice little bunch of products once more!
This is probably a good time to say - if you're reading this through Google Reader, as of tomorrow you won't have that option, so please consider following on Bloglovin' if you'd like to keep up with Just Jess. Thanks!
June 2013 Empties
June 2013 Empties
Naked Bodycare Volume Shampoo As I've mentioned, I much preferred this shampoo to the previous Naked number I'd been trialling, finding that it leaves my hair feeling clean, fresh and soft. I have fine hair and a lot of it so this has been perfect in terms of not weighing it down and leaving it lovely, light and swishy.
Repurchase? Yes.
Naked Bodycare Volume Conditioner In contrast to the shampoo, I just didn't get on with this; it was nowhere near enough of a moisture hit for my dry ends and really didn't do anything for me.
Repurchase? No.
Ted Baker Body Scrub I wasn't massively keen on the scent of this scrub at first as it was a bit too floral for my liking, but it did grow on me as I used it. It gave quite a nice exfoliation but sadly contained SLS which meant it did irritate my skin somewhat and I couldn't use it as often as I would have liked.
Repurchase? No.
Batiste Cherry & Tropical Mixing things up a little here! I love both these scents, I tend to favour Tropical but Cherry is the one I go for if Tropical isn't available.
Repurchase? Yes.
Naked Bodycare Orange Blossom Body Wash I ordered this off the Naked website for the bargain price of £1 (I think it was reduced as it's in a different packaging, so I'm assuming this is an old-style bottle?) and was really happy with the lovely soft, fresh scent, its fab cleaning power and the way it hasn't dried out my skin or irritated my eczema at all. The Naked range has been an absolute lifesaver for me!
Repurchase? Yes, although maybe not this particular scent.
Collection Loose Powder This is a staple in my routine for setting my foundation in the morning and helping to ward off shine; I've used this for years and can't see myself straying as it does the job and it's an absolute bargain at just £2.99 and often on offer. I also like to use the pressed version for touch-ups during the day.
Repurchase? Yes; already have.
June 2013 Empties
Impulse London Body Spray I've used this spray for years, particularly in the summer months as it's a lovely fruity scent which is perfect for freshening up on the go when you've spent an afternoon rolling down hills with your boyfriend and step-kids, for example(!). Cheap and cheerful and does what it says on the tin.
Repurchase? Probably, although I have a few in stock.
Botanics Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm I raved about reviewed this a few weeks back and have since finished my pot and opened a new one - I'm still loving it for removing every trace of my make-up and leaving my skin feeling smooth, soft and nourished. Packed with natural ingredients and no nasties, this has also been doing a good job on clearing out the nasty clogged pores around my nose.
Repurchase? Already have!
L'Oreal True Match Foundation I've had this aaages, it's actually been a perfect match for my skintone until just recently when I've got a hint of a tan and it's now ever so slightly too light. It gives good coverage and lasts reasonably well for me, too.
Repurchase? Maybe, once I've used some of my other foundations up.
Alpha-H Gel Cleanser I got this mini in a trial-size set from What's In My Handbag and found it was lovely for massaging into my face to remove all traces of make-up, leaving my skin feeling clean and smooth, not tight or dehydrated as some gel cleansers can.
Repurchase? Probably not, as it's way out of my budget at the moment and I'm still having a full-blown love affair with my Botanics Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm.
Alpha-H Liquid Gold Mask I did a mini review of this one, too, a couple of weeks ago; as I said then, I was pretty underwhelmed with this mask and given its price, I'd hope to have seen results from the first use, which I simply didn't. Even three uses didn't really give me any noticeable difference in my skin, so although I enjoyed the tingly feeling whilst the mask was on my face, I don't think it's worth the price point for me.
Repurchase? No.
MUA Matte Foundation I really liked this foundation, it matched my skin really well, gave just the right level of coverage and, once finished with powder, was exactly the finish I like. I think this may have been discontinued but if not, I'll certainly be picking up another tube as it's a right bargain!
Repurchase? If I can!

How has your month been? Have you finished many products up in June?

NOTD: Surreal Glitter

I know, I know, another NOTD post! I've had a busy weekend with popping up to my mum's to help her set up a live stream (she's technologically challenged) so we could watch my brother racing for Great Britain on Saturday morning, then a trip to Morecambe to the Kite Festival in the afternoon to watch a friend playing in a ukulele band, which was fab. I did, however, discover something of a kite phobia. Then on Sunday we had a day of reading and playing with the kids, topped off with a Sunday roast and watching Hannibal in bed with hot chocolate. What did you get up to this weekend?
Anyway, back to the post; this is two coats of shade 635 'Surreal' from Maybelline's Forever Strong Super Stay 7 Days Gel Nail Color range (super long name!?), with one coat of a Barry M Limited Edition glitter from Christmas 2012 on my ring fingers and thumbs as an accent. I actually really like this and think the red, silver and blue in the glitter match the cornflower of 'Surreal' pretty perfectly.

What do you think? Do you like to add an accent nail? Or do you go for glitter all over?

Review: Naked Style Little Miracle Leave-In Conditioner & Extra Shiny Finishing Serum

Naked Style Products Review
I was recommended these products by the lovely people at Naked Bodycare and ordered them both to give them a go. I've been using them for a couple of months now, and thought it was time to share how I've been getting on; I've already reviewed both their Volume Shampoo & Conditioner, and their Smooth Silky Shampoo & Conditioner, so do have a read of those if you're looking for SLS-free, silicone-free haircare!
Naked Little Miracle Leave-In Conditioner Review
Naked Little Miracle Leave-In Conditioner Review
Since I suffer from extremely dry ends, it was suggested that I try Naked's Little Miracle Leave-In Conditioner to add a little moisture back in. Containing Shea Butter and Argan Oil, this product claims to repair and protect dry hair against heat styling and breakage.
"Our silicone-free formulations allow product junkies the freedom to style hair without synthetic product build-up, which can damage the hair, causing weakness and loss of natural sheen. Our Little Miracle is a superb silicone-free leave-in conditioner to protect and repair hair that's feeling a bit worn out, tackling dodgy dryness, frightful frizz and scary split ends. After washing, apply to towel dried hair. Use sparingly, avoiding the roots and applying to the lengths of the hair, paying particular attention to the ends. Don't rinse away, just style as normal."
After washing and towel-drying, I've been rubbing a blob roughly the size of a 10p between my palms, then smoothing through the lengths of my hair, concentrating on the ends as suggested. This has a lovely scent, almost coconutty, which lingers in the hair delightfully. At first, I think I was using a little too much product, which left my hair feeling crispy and weird once dry, so I definitely suggest that you follow the instructions and use sparingly! I don't feel like this has repaired my hair as it claims, but then I never believe products which claim to repair hair. It has, however, done a reasonably good job of moisturising my hair and keeping it feeling softer, which frankly is a little miracle given how dry my ends were previously. I do still have split ends but I think there's fewer than there were before - this might just be wishful thinking, but I honestly do think my hair looks better, regardless. Overall, I really like this product, it's a much-needed extra shot of moisture in my haircare routine and one I see myself keeping up for the foreseeable future. Given how little I'm using, the 150ml tube will last months, making it great value for money.

Naked Extra Shiny Finishing Serum Review
Naked Extra Shiny Finishing Serum Review
I was also recommended the Extra Shiny Finishing Serum, again to help combat frizz and give my hair a little more shine. According to the bottle, this product contains moisturising botanical extracts with natural minerals to add a glossy sheen.
"Beautiful things come in small packages, and this little gem brings instant shine and radiance, putting the sparkle back in your hair. After styling, pump a pea-sized amount into palm, and run through dry hair from the roots to the ends. Can also be used to calm the flyaways at the parting."
I use this after drying my hair, pumping twice into the palm of my hand. I then rub my hands together and smooth from my parting downwards to help tame flyaways. I then run my hands through the lengths of my hair, which again smoothes the hair and adds a little shine, leaving it feeling soft and silky. This product has a lovely fruity scent which I don't find lasts long in the hair but does make it pleasant to use. It's pretty effective in giving a little extra shine to my hair, although I don't feel it's strong enough to completely tame my flyaways - they are extremely gravity-resistant, though! Again, this is a lovely product which has been welcome in my haircare routine and which I can see myself continuing to use for years to come.

Naked Extra Shiny Finishing Serum & Little Miracle Leave-In Conditioner
Little Miracle Leave-In Conditioner is priced at £4.99 for 150ml, whilst Extra Shiny Finishing Serum is £4.99 for 50ml, both available from Naked's website.
Have you tried any of Naked's styling products? What do you use to keep your hair soft and silky?

My Collection: Lipsticks

Lipstick Collection
I've acquired a few new lipsticks recently and am starting to wear them more and more; for years, I simply didn't wear lipstick and wasn't comfortable doing so, but I'm finally beginning to experiment a little more with colour on my lips. That said, a lot of these do actually appear to be very similar in colour... I obviously know what I like! I wasn't really sure how to group these, as the vast majority of my lipsticks are, apparently, pink. In the end, I put reds together, and then sort of split what was left by brand. So, here goes! I've linked each shade name through if I've posted about it, but if there are any other shades you'd like me to review in full or swatch properly, just let me know and I'll do my best!

Lipstick Collection
Lipstick Collection
Lipstick Collection
Under reds, I have four lipsticks, from left to right: Beauty UK 'Vampire', Avon 'Smitten Red', ELF 'Voodoo' and Ulta3 'Deep Red Rose Matte'.
Although I do love a red lip, I'd say these are my least-worn shades as I tend to save them for days when I'm feeling super confident. 'Vampire' and 'Smitten Red' are both cooler-toned reds, whilst 'Voodoo' and 'Deep Red Rose Matte' are warmer-toned.

Lipstick Collection
Lipstick Collection
Lipstick Collection
Left to right: Revlon Lip Butter 'Macaroon', Collection 'Sweet Tart', Jemma Kidd 'Rose', Avon 'Frozen Rose', Accessorize 'Vintage Rose' and Deborah Milano Shade 8.
The Collection is my favourite lipstick, with the Deborah Milano a close second; I love a pink lip and feel that it's the shade that suits me best. The Avon lipstick is ancient and is the first lipstick I ever owned; it's a lovely barely-there shade, as is the Jemma Kidd, which came from TKMaxx in a set for about £5. The Accessorize lipstick was part of my swap package with Amiiee from a couple of weeks back, and I've yet to actually wear it properly.

Lipstick Collection

And finally, these are my Clinique lipsticks plus my one and only MAC lippie. Again, left to right: Clinique 'Wow Violet', Clinique 'Beach Coral', Clinique 'Honey Nude', Clinique 'Pink Glamour', and MAC 'Cut A Caper'.
I loved 'Cut A Caper' when I first got it but have rarely worn it recently, I'm going to start wearing it again now I've been reminded of its existence! The Clinique lippies were all 'free gift with purchase' items which were gifted to me by a friend's mum who didn't wear lipstick - score! The shades I wear most are 'Beach Coral' and 'Wow Violet', I'm less keen on 'Pink Glamour' and 'Honey Nude' is quite an unflattering shade on me, I think.
So, that's my little lipstick collection! What do you think? How many lipsticks do you own?

Ten Day You Challenge #10: 1 Photo Of Yourself (FOTD)

I've finally reached Day Ten of this challenge, and I'm honestly quite glad to see the back of it - it was fun at first, but it's definitely started to drag towards the end, as you can probably tell from the way there's been weeks between posts! Anyway, Day Ten is "One Picture of Yourself" and so I went with the obvious beauty blogger choice of combining this with a FOTD post. Firstly, products used:
FOTD Products Used
[17 Photo Flawless Primer; Deborah Milano Comfort Mat Foundation in 'Caramel Beige'; Bourjois Cream Blusher in 'Rose Tender'; Collection Sheer Loose Powder; Elizabeth Arden Highlighter; MUA Pro Brow Kit; Avon Super Extend Mascara; Stila 'In The Light' palette; Accessorize Lipstick in 'Vintage Rose']

FOTD
FOTD
And then some photos of my face grinning maniacally. I sort of cheated on the "one picture" part, as you can see, but I think it's allowed as the second is just close-ups of the lipstick (which I received in my swap package from Amiiee) and my eyeshadow. I really like the Accessorize lipstick, which is a pretty blue-toned pink which I think suits my skintone quite well and also makes my teeth look lovely and white! For my eyes, I just patted 'Sunset' and 'Gilded Gold' from the Stila palette over my lids and blended out.
The foundation was a sample I received with my Deborah Milano lipstick, which I really like aside from it being far too dark for me. It looks okay blended out and powdered down, but I can still tell it's too dark and let's be honest, no shade named 'Caramel Beige' is ever going to be right for me! Other than that, this is a lovely, medium-coverage foundation which is easily buildable, blends really nicely and gives the perfect matte finish for me. I'll definitely be looking at a lighter shade of this once I've used up a few more of the insane number of foundations I currently own. The Bourjois blusher was also part of my gift from Amiiee and is a lovely subtle flush of pink with a slight shimmer, which I love.
Do you have any secrets for making too-dark foundation work for you? What's your favourite part of this make-up?

I was lucky enough to win etailPR's Shopcade blogger competition with my wishlist post, and part of my prize was a £200 Asos voucher. I've been browsing the site since and thought I'd put together a little wishlist of some of the items I'm considering.
Asos Wishlist
Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in 'Guava' and 'Key Lime', £3.99 each
Asos Boudoir Lingerie Set, Bra £20 & Knickers £9.50
I reviewed Barry M's nail art pen in Silver a few weeks ago and have been wanting the other shades ever since, as they're just so much better than the Models Own nail art pens I have. I'm also loving the look of the Summer Gelly collection, I love acid-bright colours! I also love the idea of a UV topcoat to add a little something extra to nail polish, although I'm not sure how often I'd get to use this.
I've been after some new underwear lately and this Boudoir set is super pretty. It's also been months since I've had any new clothes, so I've chosen a couple of staple pieces that I think will see me through summer (such as it is) and into Autumn/Winter; the same can be said for the Moonwalk boots, which I just love. Finally, the pinky ring is just so delicate and pretty, and would go with pretty much anything.
Which item is your favourite? How would you spend £200 at Asos? Any recommendations for me?

Born Pretty Holo Nail Polish Shade 8 Bottle Shot
A few weeks ago, Born Pretty Store held a promotion to celebrate the launch of their new line of Holo nail polishes; in return for hosting an ad on your blog for a week, you could request a bottle of the Holo polish in a shade of your choosing. Free nail polish!? As you can imagine, I was there like a shot, and this little beauty arrived this week; I went for shade 8, which is a pretty light blue shade. For the photos below, I applied three coats over OPI's Nail Envy, with no top coat, and all photos are taken in direct sunlight. The polish applied really nicely, going on smoothly and evenly (although I found the small brush made it quite tricky to apply neatly), and dried fairly quickly too. Two coats would have been okay, and were enough for the holo effect to show, but I went for three to make it a little bit more opaque. The holo effect isn't quite as strong as shown in the photos online, although I imagine it could be increased by using a dedicated holo base coat. Either way, I really like this polish and would love to add a couple more shades from the range to my collection!
NOTD Born Pretty Holo Polish Shade 8
NOTD Born Pretty Holo Polish Shade 8

Born Pretty Holo Polishes are currently on offer at $5.59; normal price is $12.88 for 6ml, so now is a good time to snap up a few shades if any of them take your fancy!

Review: Naked Bodycare Coco de Mer Body Butter

Naked Bodycare Coco de Mer Body Butter Review
Yep, another Naked review today! You can probably tell I love this range.
I purchased this tub of body butter as, whilst I love The Body Shop's offerings, they're a little pricey when there isn't a sale on, and are sadly outside my budget at the moment. My first impression was it's a lovely big tub - 300ml, compared to 200ml in the larger Body Shop butters. The packaging is simple but does the job perfectly, with the lid unscrewing to reveal thick, pale pink body butter with quite a strong rose scent. For me, the scent is bearable but not one I'd choose for myself; if you like rose scents then I imagine you'll love this! The body butter is thick but spreads really easily, melting into the skin and absorbing quickly. A little really does go a long way - people say that about the Body Shop butters and I disagree completely, I always find I need quite a lot to actually make it worth bothering. With Coco de Mer, though, the butter spreads so easily that this tub has lasted me twice as long as a Body Shop one normally does (around two months so far), and I've not finished it yet. It does a perfect job of moisturising and hydrating my skin, and doesn't dry it out at all like some "moisturisers" have (generally those containing petroleum-based ingredients), which is obviously a pro with my dry, sensitive skin. It leaves a scent on the skin for a few hours, and I have actually grown to like the scent, although I still wouldn't call it my favourite.
Naked Bodycare Coco de Mer Body Butter Review
Naked Bodycare Coco de Mer Body Butter Review
Naked Bodycare Coco de Mer Body Butter Ingredients
Overall, I think this is a wonderful product - great value for money, great moisturising power, and great ingredients. My only suggestion would be that I'd like to see it in more scents - for example the Starflower scent of their bodywash, or the Almond scent of their Intensive Care shampoo; both are gorgeous.
Naked's Coco de Mer Body Butter is priced at £4.99 for 300ml of product, available from Naked's website, or from Boots for £5.45. They also make a Coco de Mer body wash and bath foam, so if you do enjoy this scent, you could double up for twice the experience!
Do you use body butters? What's your favourite? Are you a fan of rose scented products?

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

Good afternoon! Isn't the sunshine gorgeous today? When the weather is warm like this, I tend to want to wear as little make-up as possible, as I know it'll invariably slide off my face anyway. I've just been pottering around today, getting odd jobs done and wandering into town to post some eBay parcels, so I wanted to look presentable whilst still being comfortable.
I received Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in my swap parcel from Amiiee, in the shade 'Honey'. I'd heard a lot of good things about these stains so I was excited to try this, and I haven't been disappointed!

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain Honey
You get plenty of product for your money, which twists up easily from the crayon-style applicator, meaning you don't need a sharpener or anything like that. It applies to the lips smoothly without any dragging, giving a lovely glossy all-over colour. The product feels really comfortable and moisturising on my lips, and lasts well; at least a couple of hours. As it begins to fade, it loses its shine, but it lives up to its claims of being a stain, leaving a definite tint of colour to the lips which mean this is an ideal product if you're not going to be able to touch up your make-up during the day. It also has a slight minty scent which I think is meant to freshen your breath, although this fades quite quickly.

[Also wearing: 17 Photo Flawless Skin Primer,  Miss Sporty So Matte Foundation in '02 Light', Collection Sheer Loose Powder, Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blusher in 'Rose Petal', MUA Dusk Til Dawn Palette, MUA Pro Brow Palette, Santhilea Magnetic Lash Mascara*]
Overall, I think the Just Bitten Balm Stain is a lovely lip product, good value for money, providing decent colour payoff and a great lasting power. My only minor complaint is the writing on the side of the crayon scratches off quite easily, as is often the case with plastic packaging like this. Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are available from Boots and Superdrug, priced at £7.99 (though currently £5.99 in Superdrug, and Buy One Get One Half-Price in Boots).

Blusher Collection
Since my Lipstick Collection post last week proved pretty popular, I decided I'd do a similar post about my blushers; I have done this post previously but that was quite a while ago now and my collection has grown considerably since then! So, without further ado...
Again, I struggled with how best to group these; in the end I decided to share cream blushers first, followed by powders in a semblance of order by brand. Shade names will link through to reviews/FOTDs where I've done them, if there's a particular blusher you'd like to see in more detail let me know and I'll get on it!
Cream Blushers
Cream Blushers
Left to right: Topshop 'Flush', Bourjois 'Rose Tender', Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush 'Rose Petal', and Topshop/Louise Gray 'Up In The Air'.
I really like cream blushers for the summer and have been getting a fair bit of wear from the Bourjois cream blusher since receiving it from Amiiee last month; 'Flush' was my first cream blusher and is really lovely and easy to build, although it fades quite quickly. I'm less keen on Maybelline's Dream Bouncy formula which is just a bit weird if I'm honest, and I think was more created for novelty than because it's actually a good formula for a blusher. That said, it's a pretty shade and I have been wearing it! 'Up In The Air' is a duo containing two lovely bright shades which are perfect with understated eyes and lips.

Left to right: The Body Shop Shade 02, ELF 'Innocence', Natural Collection 'Sugar Plum', Miss Sporty 'Rose'.
The first two of these, I never wear; as you can probably see in the swatches, they're really light in colour and even on my pale skin they just don't show up, no matter how much I try to build them. I don't know why I still have them, to be honest. 'Sugar Plum' is quite a deep shade and is lovely in Autumn although it's really pigmented and does require a light hand; 'Rose' was my first-ever blusher and is great for a really natural pop of pink as it gives just the right amount of colour to the cheeks.

I received 'Suede' in my April Glossybox and to be honest, I'm pretty disappointed with it as it has poor pigmentation and doesn't really seem to work for me; it's a shame as 'Rose Gold' is a gorgeous shade, is amazingly well-pigmented, and is one of my most-used blushers. 'Deep Throat' is another favourite which gives a lovely highlight to the cheeks and looks lovely all year round; 'Douceur' is also beautiful and a really flattering shade which I think would suit most skintones. 'Stereo Rose' requires no introduction; all I'll say is I'm so glad I treated myself to this, it's my most-used blusher and my go-to on days where I'm not sure what look I'm going for. I love it!

Blusher Collection
Blusher Collection
Left to right: Avon True Colour 'Russet', MUA Shade 04, MUA Shade 02, MUA Mosaic Blusher 'English Rose', George at Asda 'Heaven Sent'.
'Russet' is another super-pigmented number and one which I rarely wear as I always end up applying too much, although it's a really pretty shade when I remember to be careful. MUA's £1 blushers are such good quality, both of these are really well-pigmented and are lovely shades, 04 being another one of most most-used at the moment as it's perfect for summer. I think 'English Rose' falls between a blusher and a highlighter as it's so pale in colour, and I feel like I'll get more wear out of it come Winter, although it is a gorgeous shade. Finally, 'Heaven Sent' was an impulse purchase which actually swatches as almost identical to Sleek's 'Rose Gold', and is another blusher which is really packed with colour and requires a light hand for a pretty flush of colour.

What do you think of my collection? Do you own any of these blushers? Which is your favourite blusher?

Stylight

Have you heard of Stylight? I'd describe it as what would happen if Polyvore and Pinterest had babies; a site where you can browse, create "looks", follow other members whose "looks" you like, "heart" looks items, and (perhaps most importantly!?) shop.
Stylight Profile
First up, you create a profile. This shows basic information like how many people you follow, how many people follow you, and items/looks you've "hearted". This is also where people can find "looks" you've created. You can see on my profile that I'm not very popular, but that I'm following a few people and have created two "looks".
Stylight Look
A "look" is sort of akin to a Pinterest board or a Polyvore set; clicking on a look allows you to see all the items in it. You can resize images, rearrange them, and also upload your own photos, add music or video, and type in quotations, as I've done above, which means you can personalise each look and make it your own. Looks are a great way of putting together outfit ideas; you could choose a key item such as a dress, and then create a look of accessories and other clothing which would go with it. You can also create looks around trends, for example neon or Aztec, or a colour scheme, as I have with my 'Green With Envy' look.
Stylight Homepage
On the Stylight homepage, you can see trending looks, members, and products, allowing you to find members to follow, browse what other people are creating and gain inspiration. From here, you can heart products and people's looks, and add products either to an existing look or create a new one. You can also sort products by type (for example dresses or shoes), and then search by price, colour, etc., making it easy to find the sort of thing you're after.
Stylight Trending Members
One of the best ways to interact with Stylight is by following other members; the Trending Members page is a great way to do this as it allows you to find people who are currently creating popular looks. You can also choose all-time most popular members, popular members this month, and new members, to liven up your Stylight feed.
Stylight Feed
From the homepage, you can also access your feed; this is where people you are following show up, so you can see new looks they've created, products they've hearted, and people they've followed. You can then find more people to follow, heart their looks, and add products they've used to your own looks.
Stylight is a fun-to-use site and an easy way to while away a few hours finding inspiration and creating new looks and dream wishlists. If you're a fashion fan, or just like looking at pretty things, I'd recommend having a browse - but don't hold me responsible when you find you've lost an hour! I can imagine this being a great tool for fashion bloggers, too, as you could upload an image of your outfit, add in the products you're wearing, and link to your blogpost.
Have you tried Stylight? If you have, or do, do give me a follow!

Review: Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer

Rimmel Apocalips - a product which has received mass hype from bloggers since its launch, and which I was  keen to try out in an effort to find a lip product which would give the colour and longevity of a lipstick but with a more comfortable wear. I also thought the product name 'Apocalips' was really clever, and liked the way the shade names fit in with the range title.
Rimmel Apocalips Review
Rimmel Apocalips Review Apocaliptic
I chose shade 303 'Apocaliptic', which is a hot pink shade that I loved the look of both in reviews and when I swatched it. And that, sadly, is where the love ended. I've tried and tried, but I just cannot get this product to work for me. It's awful to apply, pooling dreadfully around the edges of my lips due to the wand; I'd rather dip it back into the tube a couple of times than have this amount of product on the wand, making it impossible to apply neatly. Even once on, I can't like this; it doesn't dry at all, meaning it transfers to everything - glasses, teeth, skin, boyfriends. It bleeds badly where it's pooled around the edges of my lips, giving nasty feathery lines. It dries my lips out something chronic, and fades horribly, leaving a ring of colour round the outside of my lips and nasty, patchy, uneven colour on the lips themselves. The photos below show how Apocaliptic wore on me over around an hour, from the pooling on application, through the bleeding and fading to the nasty dry patchy end result.

I'm sorry, Rimmel, but Apocalips and me just do not get on. I'm really disappointed that this just doesn't work for me and it does feel like a waste of money.
Do you own any of the Apocalips? Have you had better luck with them than I have? Which is your favourite shade?

Mini Review: Glam Glow

I received a sample tube of Glam Glow in a giveaway over on Krystel's blog, and have had two face masks from the 7ml sample I received. I don't feel this is enough to give a full, in-depth review but I thought I'd share my initial thoughts nonetheless.
Glam Glow Youthmud Mask Review
On first impressions, the black and silver tube is attractive and appealing, although the full-sized product comes in a screw-top jar rather than a tube.
Claims on Glam Glow's website include:
- Leaves skin noticeably radiant and glowing.
- Activates moisturizing collagen synthesis.
- Provides gentle resurfacing exfoliation.
- Helps to leave skin smoother, brighter and softer.
- Provides tighter skin texture and tighter pores.
- Helps to provide a more youthful appearance.
- Absorbs impurities without removing natural oils.
- Helps to protect against free radical damage.
...All of which sound pretty good to me!
Squeezed from the tube, this is a mid-grey cream with a gritty texture, delivering exfoliation as you apply to your face. It has a scent but doesn't really smell of anything in particular to me; just a standard skincare sort of smell. It tingles on the skin which makes it really feel as though it's working, and as it dries it turns to a light grey colour.
Glam Glow Youthmud Mask Review
After around ten minutes, I wash off with plenty of warm water and a muslin cloth; if you have sensitive skin, I'd recommend doing this in the shower as you do get a fairly intensive exfoliation. Once my skin is clean and dry, I find it looks brighter and feels softer and smoother, with blackheads around my nose visibly reduced (although not gone altogether!) and my large pores shrunk. Some mud masks can dry the skin out, but I don't find that to be a problem with Glam Glow, although if you have a drier skin-type than me you may find you do need a little extra moisturisation. So, I'd say this mask definitely lives up to six of its eight claims, and I think the other two (more youthful appearance and protection against free radical damage) would require more long-term use to see full effects. I'd say the results lasted two or three days in terms of my skin looking brighter and feeling softer and smoother, which would be perfect if you had a special event and wanted your skin to glow!
Glam Glow Youthmud Mask retails at £24.99 for 15ml or £49.99 for 50ml, which is definitely on the higher end of the face mask price range for me; however, I feel like the results I've had from just two uses would make it worthwhile if I had that kind of money to spare. Based on two usages from 7ml, I'd expect the 50ml jar to last maybe 14 usages, bringing it in at around £3.50 per usage. You can order a 7ml sample tube from Glam Glow's website for £4.99, which bizarrely enough, actually works out cheaper than the larger-sized products, and would definitely be worth purchasing before you decide to make an investment.
All in all, I think this is a great mask, which does what it claims and works really well to clear and brighten the skin. It's definitely on the pricey side but would be a good investment if you can afford it, and if not then the sample size won't break the bank and will allow you a quick treatment before a special event.
Have you tried any of Glam Glow's masks? What are your thoughts? Would you spend this much on a face mask?

NOTD: Slapper in a Storm

Happy Sunday, ladies and gents! I was in the mood for a summery bright turquoise on my nails, and butterLONDON's 'Slapper' fit the bill perfectly; this is my only butterLONDON polish, which I actually won in a giveaway. It's a lovely bright shade, leaning a deeper green in low light and more decidedly turquoise in the sunshine. Sadly, I've found it to chip fairly quickly, even with a topcoat; this lasted about three hours on my nails before I noticed there was a chunk missing from my little finger. I topped it with a coat of NFU.Oh's 'Storm In A Teacup', a gorgeous flakie topcoat which switched between gold, green and red-orange depending how the light catches it.

Don't Believe The Hype

Sometimes, there's so much hype around a product that you just have to try it. This is, I think, especially the case for bloggers; you see your favourite blogs mentioning how amazing a product is and eventually you give in and splash out on something which you probably don't even really "need". And then, of course, you've heard how wonderful it is so many times that inevitably you end up being disappointed. Today I just want to share a few products which have been disappointments to me; either because they haven't suited me, or they just haven't met the standard I was expecting from all the glowing, raving reviews I'd read.
Products That Don't Live Up To The Hype
Soap & Glory's Hand Food is a much-loved product featuring in many a bedside table or "What's In My Handbag?" post; for me, it simply doesn't cut the mustard. It smells lovely but does nothing for my hands, in fact it dries them out, which I put down to the parabens and petroleum it contains. I reviewed Rimmel's Apocalips a few days back and as I mentioned there, I just can't find a way of making this work for me, although I love the shade. Collection's cult Lasting Perfection Concealer hates my skin; it goes on cakey and creases within minutes of application, finding its way into every fine line and pore in reach and pooling there, generally looking dreadful. Finally, two Benefit products I've been less than enamoured with; The POREfessional is a good product but for me I think I'd heard one too many people claim it was amazing and was always going to be disappointed. It doesn't help my foundation last any longer and that's ultimately what I want from a primer. They're Real, meanwhile, isn't anywhere near as good as it claims, in fact it's no better than mascaras less than half its price, and several times more difficult to remove. I'm glad I got this free with a magazine before I gave in a purchased it, as it would've felt like wasted money.
Have you tried any of these and loved them? What's been your biggest disappointment product?

Review: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

$

Until I started blogging, I rarely used top coat when I painted my nails; no wonder my polish always chipped so quickly! As I discovered blogs, though, I also discovered the benefits of doing my nails properly, including, of course, a proper base and top coat. I heard whispers about Seche Vite but was never willing to splash that much cash on a topcoat. So, needless to say, I was thrilled when I received one in a 'Try' from What's In My Handbag. I have to be honest; I am now unsure how I ever managed without it! It's not perfect, though, so in this post I'll share my pros and cons of Seche Vite's Dry Fast Top Coat.
Seche Vite Review
It sounds like a great product in theory; pop it on over your freshly painted nails to have them dry in next to no time so you can continue about your everyday life - scratching things that itch, going to the toilet, etc. Seche claim their product is, "Specially formulated to penetrate through nail lacquer to the base coat, forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish. Guaranteed not to yellow whilst leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling." Sounds good, hey? And it is! There's a bit of a knack to applying it (you need to have a droplet on the end of your brush, and apply that to the nail in three strokes, so your brush never actually has to touch the nail) but once you get that down it's easy. Paint your nails, bang this on top, give it a couple of minutes... and boom! Nails done, with a gorgeous super-glossy finish.
Seche Vite Glossy Finish
Of course it's not that straight-forward, is it? Nothing ever is. Although your nails are dry within a couple of minutes, they will still dent for 20-30 minutes, so you do still need to be careful. I've also had a few problems with shrinkage, where the nail polish shrinks as it dries, pulling away from the tip of the nail and leaving an unattractive naked patch; I've found this happens when I've used lots of coats. It's generally fine with two coats, but three is pushing it and any more than that is not going to work with Seche Vite, as you can see in this photo where I used four coats of Essie's Sugar Daddy and one coat of glitter polish.
Seche Vite Shrinkage
I've also found that, as I get further down the bottle, the polish is becoming thicker and harder to apply, meaning I'm more prone to smudging my polish in the process. Seche do actually make a product to rectify this, Seche Restore, although you'd think if they were aware of the problem they'd fix it rather than making you buy an additional product to be able to use the one you've already bought?
One last complaint; the brush doesn't actually reach the bottom of the bottle even when the lid is screwed on, so there's going to be about 3mm of product in the bottom that I won't be able to reach - annoying!!
Seche Vite Brush
This aside, I do think this is a great quick-dry top coat, although I have nothing to compare it to as its the only one I've tried. I would like to try some other brands but can see myself repurchasing this if others don't live up to its standards. Seche Vite is available from BeautyBay priced at £8.08 for 15ml, although its RRP is £9.50.
Have you tried Seche Vite? What's your favourite top coat?

[Please note I received this item free of charge in a 'Try' from What's In My Handbag. As always, all thoughts and opinions are completely honest!]
